On number 5 of the Top 10 Amsterdam tourist attractions we find a visit to one of the Amsterdam museums. In Amsterdam we find several museums with important paintings from well known artists. The two best known museums are The Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum.
The Rijksmuseum is the biggest museum of the Netherlands. It has a famous painting collection with works of o.a. Rembrandt van Rijn (o.a. The Night watch/De Nachtwacht), Johannes Vermeer and Frans Hals. But beside famous paintings you also find other works like Delft ware (Delfstblauw), ship models, sculptures, weapons, clothing, etc. The Rijksmusuem is a must do tourist attraction if you want to visit a museum in Amsterdam. The Rijksmuseum is now in renovation, so not all works are shown in the Rijksmuseum itself. A part of the collection is shown at Schiphol Airport.
The Van Gogh museum has the biggest Vincent Van Gogh collection of the world. Not only works from Van Gogh is shown, but also works from other 19th century painters who inspired Van Gogh or where inspired by Van Gogh. The Van Gogh museum is clossed from October 2012 for renovation. The Van Gogh collection will then be shown in The Hermitage.
Beside these 2 museums, you find more than 50 other museums, so it is wisely to find out which museums you want to visit before you have your trip to Amsterdam. Some museums you can also book as a package with a Canal tour. This can be very interesting from time and money perspective.
